CPR- Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation
CPR is a combination of mouth to mouth rescusitation and chest compression, this delivers artificial circulation and oxygen into a person's body. This usually happens when a person's heart has stopped pumping, a heart attack happens when your heart has no circulation of oxygen coming through.
WHEN WOULD I USE CPR?
CPR is only used if you have to, if a person has stopped breathing and has no signs of any breathing you may start the process. Before you start the steps you must check if the person is responsive and that their airway is clear, you must do the D.R.S.A.B.C.D steps when 'C' is the CPR steps. HOW DO YOU DO CPR? CPR is when you purposely start breathing air into another person's lungs, you must do 30 chest compressions and then 2 strong breathes into their mouth, you will do this 5 times every 2 minutes. You must place the heel of one hand on the lower half of the person's breastbone and then place the other hand on top locking their fingers together, you will press down firmly but also smoothly, this should break there ribs so that there is more room for oxygen to come through. Before you start the process you want to be sure that air is coming through, when you breathe into their mouth you should be able to see their chest expanding. If the airway is being blocked you must stick your fingers into their mouth whilst they are on their side to take out what ever is booking the path for oxygen to get through. |
